SLIC7 LogoIn early 1989, Selman & Associates, Ltd. initiated an on going research and development effort to improve Surface Data Integrity by using computer technology to capture and categorize Surface Logging Data while drilling.

The latest achievement from this ongoing research is our Surface Logging Information Collector (SLIC-7™).  The method by which we operate our instrument and process to create surface logs was patented by us in 1993.  The SLIC-7™ system is standard equipment on every well we log.  The SLIC-7™ is truly a computer driven instrument driven by software developed for surface loggers and wellsite geologists by logging geologists.

For years, the software driving the SLIC-7™ has been the XR4 Logging System. This gem was truly ahead of its time in terms of functionality and reliability. For the first time, mud loggers could create and edit mud logs using a computer. Before this breakthrough, the only alternative (and the standard acceptable logging method) was to carefully and tediously hand draft your mud log.

Today, after many years of careful research and development, our newest standard for mud logging data acquisition is called AcquireIt™. This program (which is described on another tab) works with next-generation SLIC-7™ instruments, and it has many new benefits that we can take advantage of in addition to the already proven XR4 system including automatic flow and pressure control, automatic WITSend™ streaming, easier calibrations, more accurate measurements, and the ability to use more than one kind of instrument.
